Best Western has opened its first hotel in the Japanese city of Kagoshima.

Located in southwest Japan’s Kyushu Island, Kagoshima is nicknamed the ‘Naples of the East’ due to its bayside location, overlooked by the Sakurajima volcano.

The new Best Western Rembrandt Hotel Kagoshima Resort offers 199 rooms overlooking Kinkoh Bay and the volcano beyond. Hotel facilities include an outdoor swimming pool and jacuzzi, a Japanese restaurant and 230m² of meeting space.

“Japan was the location of Best Western International’s first hotel in Asia, and I am delighted to be able to continue our company’s proud history in this exciting country,” said Ron Pohl, Best Western’s senior vice president of brand management.

“With its ideal location, contemporary design and range of amenities, Best Western Rembrandt Hotel Kagoshima Resort is another wonderful addition to our extensive portfolio in Japan.”

Olivier Berrivin, Best Western’s new managing director of international operations for Asia, added; “With plans to attract 20 million international visitors by 2020, Japan is a country on the rise. Best Western offers a large collection of modern, international hotels across the country, and I am thrilled that we are now able to welcome visitors to the up-and-coming city of Kagoshima.”

Best Western now has a portfolio of 14 hotels in 11 cities across Japan.
