WTM Latin America 2015 opened today in Brazil’s biggest city, Sao Paulo.
At the opening ceremony, Craig Moyes, portfolio director for Reed Travel Exhibitions, welcomed new international ties as well as celebrating the recent achievements of the city, country and region.
Welcoming delegates and officials, including new Brazil’s new Tourism Minister, Vinicius Lages, Moyes said; “We have moved to a new venue, fulfilling our needs as we grow and reinforcing our place as the area’s must-attend business-to-business event. The business deals negotiated and facilitated at WTM 2014 raised BRL1 billion (US$341).
“Improved infrastructure has played a part in the boom, added Moyes, as Brazil evolves into a global economic powerhouse. That’s why this year’s event has 1,300 exhibitors, of which 60 are new.”
Moyes welcomed Istanbul as official destination partner, adding; “This will help to increase ties between Brazil and Turkey, which will see an influx in tourism to both destinations.”
He also thanked Eduardo Barbosa, vice president of Braztoa, for the company’s 43rd event, and Eduardo Murad, president of Alagev (the Brazilian Association of Corporate Travel Managers), noting that Brazilian business travel will continue to increase from the US$300bn industry of last year, and that 100 business travel buyers will attend this year’s event.
“WTM is already the most important event of its kind in Brazil and the region and this week’s event will help it to continue to grow”, concluded Moyes.
