Travel industry rallies for Nepal

Several travel and tourism companies have pledged their support to Nepal, following the devastating earthquake that is now known to have killed more than 4,300 people in the country.
Several airlines have confirmed plans transport relief supplies to Nepal, with Thai Airways transporting medical and rescue workers and relief supplies to affected areas, and Korean Air planning to deliver 24,000 bottles of water and 2,000 blankets to the country.
United Airlines also announced that it will work with charities to provide US$50,000 of donations to help with the relief effort.
Intrepid Travel and G Adventures are two of the tour companies that have launched fundraising initiatives. Intrepid will raise funds for Plan International, which has sent emergency teams to Nepal, and is giving travellers to make donations. G Adventures meanwhile, is planning to raise US$75,000 to help affected communities.
The UN estimates that eight million people have been impacted by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake, with approximately 1.4m in need of food aid.
