Philippine Airlines has announced plans to expand its network in Oceania, including the launch of its first flights to New Zealand.
On 1 December 2015, the national carrier will launch a new service from Manila to Auckland, via Cairns. Services will initially run four times a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays) using a 156-seat, two-class Airbus A320 aircraft.
“The route will stimulate passenger traffic along three travel streams – Manila and Cairns, Manila and Auckland as well as Cairns and Auckland,” said PAL’s president & chief operating officer, Jaime Bautista. “With close to 40,000 Filipinos residing in New Zealand, the new service is their convenient link to their home country.
“Upon arrival in Manila, passengers may… connect to any of the 67 other destinations in the PAL network. In the long term, the service will drive traffic between Southeast Asia and New Zealand,” he added.
The six-hour flight to Cairns will depart Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport at 2345, arriving in the Queensland city 0800 the following day. Following a one-hour stopover, the flight will continue to Auckland, arriving in New Zealand’s largest city at 1600.
On the return leg, flights will leave Auckland International Airport 1830, arriving Cairns at 2230 and finally getting back to Manila at 0330 the next morning.
Cairns will become the fifth destination in PAL’s Australian network, following Brisbane, Darwin, Melbourne and Sydney.
