Outrigger has opened a new resort in Koh Samui, with the acquisition of the Akaryn Koh Samui Resort & Spa.

Following the deal, which closed on 29 May 2015, the property has now been rebranded as the Outrigger Koh Samui Beach Resort.

“The acquisition of this stunning boutique property in Koh Samui complements other recent acquisitions by Outrigger in Phuket, Mauritius, the Maldives and Fiji,” said Darren Edmonstone, Outrigger’s managing director for Asia Pacific.

“Outrigger is on a journey to become the premier beachfront resort brand in the world. Koh Samui is a wonderful addition to that absolute beachfront portfolio.”

The resort is set on a 300-metre-long stretch of beach at Hanuman Bay, in the northeast of the island. The property has 52 suites and villas, ranging from 80-100m², all of which feature private pools. It also offers five food and beverage outlets and a range of leisure facilities.

Outrigger will now make upgrades to the resort’s public areas, villas and gardens.

“Our acclaimed ‘Outrigger Way’ style of management will be much in evidence at Samui,” said Rory Campbell, the resort’s newly-appointed general manager. “Expect delicious beachfront fine dining in a relaxed atmosphere, a full Navasana Spa experience, and a wide range of quality excursions that celebrate the best of Samui including the wonderful Ang Thong national marine park.”

Outrigger said has retained “the vast majority” of the resort’s staff.
