AirAsia has urged Malaysian authorities to speed up work to repair Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2), which it claims is sinking.
Malaysia’s Bernama news agency reported the airline’s group CEO, Tony Fernandes, as saying that the new low-cost terminal is plagued with defects, with cracks appearing in the taxiways and pools of water forming.
“This has got to end and the board must take responsibility,” Fernandes was quoted saying. “We should never have moved before the ground was settled and fixed. The management of AirAsia and I were right.”
The opening of MYR4 billion (US$1bn) KLIA2 was delayed for a year, and AirAsia was initially unwilling to move its operations from the former Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT).
When asked what the best solution to the problem was, Fernandes replied: “Move us back to the LCCT.”
