More than six million people visited the Taj Mahal in 2014.
According to new data from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), reported by the country’s Ministry of Tourism, last year’s total of 6.07 million domestic and international visitors to the Agra mausoleum marks a 4.1% increase compared to the 5.84m people that visited the site in 2013.
India recently started implementing electronic ticketing at the Taj Mahal.
Located on the southern bank of Yamuna River in Agra, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Taj Mahal was built in the 17th Century by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, to house the tomb of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
