Regent Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement to open its first ever hotel in Harbin, the capital of northeast China’s Heilongjiang province.

The luxury hotel, to be known as the Regent Place Harbin, will open in 2017 as part of the new Hua Hong International Center – a mixed-use development that will also include offices, cinemas, a shopping mall and luxury residences.

The hotel itself will feature 250 rooms and 34 suites, plus three restaurants, a spa with 10 treatment rooms, a large indoor swimming pool and a fitness centre. And for the MICE market, the new Regent will offer 14 meeting room, a 550-pax ballroom and a wedding chapel.

Regent said the design of the hotel would incorporate “gothic, baroque and byzantine architecture”.

“Asia plays an important part in Regent’s global expansion plans; we see tremendous potential for hotels in major cities throughout the region,” said Steven Pan, chairman of Regent Hotels & Resorts. “Key to our success in the region is partnering with the right people with whom we share the same values. Hua Hong Group is such a company.”

Regent Place Harbin will become the company’s fourth property in China. The Regent Beijing is currently open, while the Regent Chongqing and Regent Place Xian will launch in 2016 and 2017 respectively. Elsewhere in Asia, Regent is also present in Phuket, Singapore and Taipei.
