There are now more than 2,000 new hotels in the pipeline across the Asia Pacific region.
According to the latest report from STR Global, the region’s total pipeline has increased 6.3% compared to this time last year, and now stands at 2,379 hotels comprising 557,133 rooms.
And almost half of these new hotels (1,019 with 257,049 rooms) are already under construction.
The growth of Asia Pacific’s hotel supply is being driven by the upscale sector, which accounts for 29.2% of the total pipeline (162,938 rooms). A further 24.6% of the new rooms (136,918) are classified as being in the upper-upscale sector.
China accounts for by far the largest number of new hotels and rooms, while Indonesia, India and Malaysia also have significant pipelines.
