VietJet Air has confirmed plans to launch two new services to the newly-expanded Pleiku Airport, in Vietnam’s Central Highlands.
In a ceremony to mark the reopening of the airport, VietJet said that it will start connecting Pleiku with both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on 1 October 2015.
“The new routes are expected to boost travel between this city in the Central Highlands and Vietnam’s two most… developed cities as well as neighbouring regions,” said Desmond Lin, VietJet’s director of business development.
Flights from Hanoi will depart the capital at 1455 and arrive at Pleiku at 1630. The return flights then leave at 1710pm and arrive back in Hanoi at 1845. The HCMC service meanwhile, departs at 1635 and arrives in Pleiku at 1735pm, before departing again at 1810pm and arriving back in HCMC at 1910.
Following its expansion, Pleiku Airport, in Gia Lai province, is able to handle up to one million passengers per year. The project included expanding the airport’s runway to handle jet aircraft like VietJet’s Airbus A320s, building new aprons and upgrading the passenger terminal.
Vietnam Airlines also serves Pleiku from Hanoi, HCMC and Danang.
