Radisson Blu Hotel Sydney has unveiled the first phase of its AU$12 million (US$8.4m) refurbishment – the first major upgrade of its rooms and function spaces since the hotel opened in 2000.
The Carlson Rezidor hotel, which is set in a building that dates back to 1856, has completed a major revamp of its function rooms, which have been modernised under the “new Blu” brand guidelines. The hotel provides more than 500m² of event space for up to 200 guests. These meeting spaces include two restored heritage rooms, named Sir James and Sir Warwick.
The second phase of the redesign, due to commence in late October, will see a complete revamp of all 336 rooms and 28 suites, with new soft-furnishings, lighting and upgrades to the building’s original marble bathrooms. The presidential suite will be divided into two rooms, bringing the total number of units to 364.
These upgrades follow a revamp of the hotel’s reception, concierge area, lounge and bar, which took place in 2010.
“This AU$12 million investment will cement Radisson Blu‘s position as one of the leading five-star hotels in Sydney,” said the hotel’s general manager, Peter Tudehope.
The work is being overseen by Sydney architects Bates Smart, which recently worked on the refurbishment of the Intercontinental Sydney Double Bay.
