Eiffel Tower rises in Macau

Structural work on a replica of the Eiffel Tower has been completed in Macau.
The new monument forms part of The Parisian Macao, a new French-themed resort being developed by Sands China. The topping-out ceremony was marked by a lion dance and French cancan.
“The Parisian Macao, and in particular its Eiffel Tower, is certain to be a landmark presence on the Cotai Strip, and an iconic addition to the city’s skyline,” said Wilfred Wong, Sands China’s new president & chief operating officer.
“Sands Resorts Cotai Strip Macao is truly like no other integrated resort destinations. Where else but here could you have lunch alongside the serenading gondoliers plying the picturesque canals of Venice, and then have dinner at an authentic French bistro before enjoying some of the most breathtaking views of the Cotai Strip from the Eiffel Tower?”
Macau’s Eiffel Tower will be half the size of the Paris landmark, but remains faithful to the original design. It will feature a restaurant and observation deck and will be illuminated every night. But unlike the Paris tower, the new structure is made of steel instead of wrought iron, and has been engineered to withstand the high winds of Macau’s annual typhoon season.
Scheduled to open in second half of 2016, The Parisian Macao will feature 3,000 hotel rooms plus restaurants, retail space, a theatre, spa, children’s club, gym and a water park.
