HomeAway, the US-based vacation rental company, has embarked on a major push into Asia with the rebranding of Travelmob sites in several countries.
The company acquired a majority share in Travelmob, the Asia Pacific vacation rental site, in 2013, and this month it completed the acquisition the remaining stake. As a result, Travelmob will now be rebranded as HomeAway, and the company has launched 14 new localised HomeAway sites in Asia, including China, Japan, India, Indonesia and Korea.
Headquartered in Singapore, the HomeAway Asia team will report to Prashant Kirtane, Travelmob’s former chief technology officer, who now becomes HomeAway’s vice president for Asia.
“We’ve been committed to investing in Asia Pacific since 2011, and with the Travelmob acquisition complete, we have a very strong and experienced team in place. We plan to ramp up our investments so that we can provide the highest quality of service and the very best selection of whole homes for Asian travellers,” said Brian Sharples, HomeAway’s co-founder & CEO.
HomeAway focuses on the group and family market. More than 90% of its listings are for whole homes, and the company offers a search function to highlight family-friendly properties.
“Asian travellers are quickly catching on to the benefits of renting a whole house – from a money saving, comfort and also experience point of view,” said Kirtane. “We’re seeing significant year-on-year growth driven primarily by women booking vacations for their families, from the likes of Japan, mainland China, Korea and Taiwan. We are absolutely thrilled to be part of the HomeAway family and are looking forward to be part of the next phase of growth.”
Headquartered in Texas, HomeAway now has more than one million vacation rental listings in 190 countries.
