Thailand has embarked on a new initiative aimed at improving the quality of its MICE venues.

Launched by the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), the Thailand MICE Venue Standard (TMVS) 2015-2020 will measure the quality of the country’s conference facilities.

Initially, 80 MICE venue operators are participating in the project, of which 42 have been certified. These certified companies operate a total of 114 meeting rooms.

“To develop the competitiveness of Thailand’s MICE standard, Thailand’s MICE Venue Standard, or TMVS, has been developed under cooperation with all related parties in the MICE industry, including academics, operators, organisers, service providers, and customers,” explained TCEB’s president, Nopparat Maythaveekulchai.

“We have also applied the requirements developed by the global leading MICE institutes and other international MICE standards. Therefore, those obtaining the TMVS badge of honour will gain global acceptance which creates a good image and enhances the international competitiveness of Thai operators.”

The TMVS 2015-2020 plan focused on six key areas: the improvement of Thailand’s MICE venues to meet international standards; development of human resources; advancement of IT systems; PR and marketing activities; strategy; support the ASEAN’s MICE venue standards; and sustainability.
