Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic, the adventure cruise joint venture, has signed an agreement for the construction of two new ships.

To be built in the US, the ships will each offer 50 cabins, 22 of which will feature balconies, while eight will be inter-connectable to create four large family rooms.

All public spaces will be designed to maximise views, while outdoor walkways will allow passengers to stroll around the entire deck, which will feature an outdoor bar and grill. Each vessel will also include an indoor restaurant, a lounge with facilities for presentations, a spa and fitness centre.

The ships will be equipped with a fleet of sea kayaks, paddle boards, diving gear and landing craft designed to explore “wild, remote places”, while onboard technology will include a remotely operated vehicle, a video microscope, and a hydrophone and bow-cam designed to capture underwater sound and film.

“These new ships mark an exciting step in the long-term growth of the company, and enables us to capitalise on the substantial demand for our expeditions,” said Sven Lindblad, president & CEO of Lindblad. “With our significant resources we can continue to deliver on our promise of expedition travel at its best.”

The first completed ship is scheduled to be delivered in the second quarter of 2017 while the second will arrive in the second quarter of 2018.
