China, India & Indo account for 75% of new Asian hotel rooms

Three quarters of the new hotel rooms currently under construction in the Asia Pacific region are located in just three countries: China, India and Indonesia.

According to STR Global’s latest regional pipeline report, there are now 1,021 new hotels under construction in Asia Pacific, comprising 255,224 rooms. And China accounts for 57% of this new inventory, with 146,322 rooms under construction in 464 hotels.

Indonesia (23,446 rooms in 126 hotels) and India (22,860 rooms in 138 hotels) have the next largest pipelines, and between them, these three countries account for 75% of new rooms and 71% of new hotels currently under development across the region.

Including projects still in the planning stages, there are now 2,501 hotels totalling 578,114 rooms in the pipeline in Asia Pacific.
