The Chinese New Year holidays led to a strong rising in travel, with a record number of Chinese trips being taken from 7 to 13 February 2016.
According to data from China’s Ministry of Transport, reported by Xinhua, 400 million passenger trips were made over the seven-day holiday period, up 6.7% compared to the corresponding period last year.
More than 330m road trips were made, while 47m people took to the country’s railways and 8.5m people travelled by air.
And China’s National Tourism Administration revealed on Sunday that tourism revenues in the country jumped 16.3% to CNY365.1 billion (US$55.7bn) during the seven-day holiday.
Overall, Chinese travellers are expected to make 2.91 billion trips across the country during the 40-day Chinese New Year travel period, which officially runs from 24 January to 3 March.
