AccorHotels has expanded its Australian portfolio with the signing of two new hotels at Darwin International Airport.
The company has sealed management contracts for the former Darwin Airport Hotel and Darwin Airport Resort, and has now rebranded them as the Novotel Darwin Airport and the Mercure Darwin Airport Resort.
The 136-room Novotel and neighbouring 181-room Mercure are both located just metres from airport’s terminal, and will now undergo refurbishment work.
“We are delighted to welcome two premier Darwin properties to our expanding network of hotels in the Top End,” said AccorHotels Pacific’s chief operating officer, Simon McGrath. “Considerable investment is going into the properties to bring them in line with our internationally-renowned mid-market brands, Novotel and Mercure, and we look forward to taking the properties into a fresh new phase in 2016.”
The two new hotels will become AccorHotels’ second and third properties in Darwin, following the Novotel Darwin Atrium. The company also operates Northern Territory hotels in the Kakadu National Park, Katherine, Uluru and Alice Springs.
“Having an aggregation of hotels in the region means we have more resources to attract more business to the area,” McGrath added.
