Norwegian Cruise Line has ordered a new ship for its luxury brand, Regent Seven Seas Cruises.
To be built in Italy by the Fincantieri shipyard, the new vessel will be a sister ship to the Seven Seas Explorer, which is scheduled to launch in July 2016. The new vessel, which will cost EUR422 million (US$477m), is expected to be delivered in 2020.
“When we began conceptualising Seven Seas Explorer a little over four years ago, we knew from the onset that she would be something special and make an immediate and lasting impression in the marketplace,” said Frank Del Rio, president & CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line.
“We expect that the positive impact on earnings and impressive return on investment from Seven Seas Explorer will be significant and that her sister vessel will make a similar contribution.”
The new Explorer-class vessel will retain many of the luxury features and amenities of the Seven Seas Explorer, including fine-dining restaurants, lounges and spacious accommodation, including the luxury Regent Suite concept. Further details about the new ship, including its name, will be announced at a later date.
The 54,000-tonne, 750-passenger Seven Seas Explorer marks the first new-build vessel for Regent Seven Seas Cruises in 14 years.
