A new airline will take off from the Chinese city of Harbin this summer.

LJ Air is expected to take delivery of its first – a 212-seat, all-economy class Airbus A321 – on 18 May, ahead of its first flights in June. The airline then plans to add five more Airbus jets by the end this year, before expanding its fleet to 20 aircraft by end of 2020.

Based at Harbin’s Taiping International Airport, in the northeast Chinese province of Heilongjiang, LJ Air will initially operate domestic flights to cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Xi’an, Yiwu and Nanning.

It is also planning to launch international services to Russia, Japan and South Korea in future.

Currently, four Chinese airlines have an operating base in Harbin, namely China Southern, Shenzhen Airlines, Sichuan Airlines and Okay Airways.
