Air India will expand its operations in the state of Gujarat this month, with the launch of a new service from Mumbai to Bhavnagar.

Commencing on 21 April 2016, the flight will operate four times a week (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) using a 70-passenger ATR 72 turboprop aircraft.

“According to our study, there is a sustainable demand and we believe that this route will generate traffic and revenue,” an Air India official was reported saying by the Times of India.

The flight will depart Mumbai at 1730 and arrive in Bhavnagar at 1845. In return, the flight will then leave the Gujarati city at 1915 and arrive back in Mumbai at 2030.

Jet Airways had previously suspended its Bhavnagar route, saying it was not commercially viable.

Situated on the Gulf of Khambhat, Bhavnagar has a population of almost a million people.
