Air India to retire older A320s

Air India is set to remove the oldest Airbus A320 aircraft from its fleet in the coming years, as it replaces them with newer models.
The New Indian Express reports that the national carrier is aiming retire 15 of its aging A320s by 2019. Some of the aircraft are more than two decades old.
A “senior Air India official” told the newspaper that four of the single-aisle aircraft expected to be retired this fiscal year, with the rest following in due course. Three of the aircraft are currently grounded.
The national carrier currently operates a fleet of 68 A320-series aircraft, and plans to introduce 29 more over the next three years, including 14 brand new A320neo aircraft.
“So far we were unable to replace these planes as [it]… would have resulted in reduction in capacity, particularly in the fast growing domestic market. But with as many as 19 more A320s going to join the fleet by 2019, the old planes can be retired without curtailing the schedule,” the official was quoted saying.
