Qatar Airways celebrates the delivery of its new Boeing 777

Qatar Airways has reached a milestone in its fleet expansion efforts, with the arrival of its 50th Boeing 777 aircraft.

The wide-body jet has become the backbone of the airline’s long-haul fleet, operating on more than 35% of its network (including cargo flights) including some of its longest routes, such as Houston, Buenos Aires and Los Angeles. Qatar Airways also plans to launch its longest-ever route, Doha-Auckland, using the B777.

Seat capacity on the aircraft ranges from the 259-seat B777-200s to the high-capacity 412-seat B777-300ER.

“We place passenger comfort and the flying experience at the forefront of our aircraft programme, and with the introduction of the Boeing 777 into the fleet just under a decade ago, our crew and passengers have come to know how comfortable and spacious the cabins are,” said Qatar Airways’ group chief executive, Akbar Al Baker.

“We are proud to fly the Boeing 777 and this milestone in our fleet is a mark of the success we have had with Boeing and Qatar Airways’ fleet programme.”

Qatar Airways is now one of the world’s largest B777 operators, and this growth will continue in future; the airline has placed orders for up to 100 new B777-X aircraft – the newest addition to the B777 series.
