GoAir, the Indian low-cost carrier, has taken delivery of its first Airbus A320neo aircraft.

The arrival of the new single-aisle jet marks the start of a major fleet renewal and expansion programme for the airline, which has ordered a total of 72 A320neos. The aircraft is the new fuel-efficient version of the popular A320 series.

Mumbai-based GoAir becomes only the third airline in the world to operate the A320neo, following Lufthansa and another Indian LCC, IndiGo. It will configure the aircraft with 186 seats in an all-economy layout.

Since its launch in 2010, the A320neo programme has taken more than 4,500 orders from 82 customers.

To date, seven have been delivered. The aircraft, which come fitted with new engines and aerodynamic enhancements, offer fuel-savings of 15-20% compared to the old A320.
