Royal Caribbean has revealed that it will homeport its newest cruise ship, Ovation of the Seas, in Singapore in 2017.
The announcement was made earlier this week during the ship’s maiden call in Singapore, where a ceremony was held in the presence of more than 200 people, including Lionel Yeo, chief executive of the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).
The 347-metre-long, 4,905-passenger Ovation of the Seas launched in April 2016 and will become the largest cruise ship ever to homeport in Singapore.
Based at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre in March and April 2017, the ship will undertake 10 cruises, including three- to five-night round trip sailings to Penang, Phuket and Bangkok, and a one-way cruise to Tianjin calling at Ho Chi Minh City, Danang, Hong Kong and Seoul.
“We’re thrilled to bring one of the world’s most innovative cruise ships to Singapore and the region, and take cruise travel here to new heights,” said Gavin Smith, Royal Caribbean’s senior vice president of international.
“Joining Mariner of the Seas and Voyager of the Seas, the addition of Ovation of the Seas means we will have the largest cruise fleet deployment of any brand in Southeast Asia.”
With Voyager of the Seas returning to Singapore in May 2017 and Mariner of the Seas in October 2017, along with the Ovation of the Seas deployment, Royal Caribbean’s Southeast Asian capacity will increase by 30% next year.
The 18-deck Ovation of the Seas features a series of unique amenities, including the ‘Bionic Bar’ where guests are served by robots, a circus school, and ‘North Star’, an observation capsule that rises 92 metres over the ocean. Its F&B outlets include Jamie Oliver’s ‘Jamie’s Italian’ restaurant.
Following its maiden call in Singapore this week, Ovation of the Seas embarked on a three-night cruise to Kuala Lumpur. And on 12 June it will set off on a 12-night cruise to Tianjin where it will spend the summer.
