Turkey was the fourth most popular destination for Muslim travellers this Ramadan, according to the Ramadan Travel Report 2016 by CrescentRating.
The destination ranked four in the list of top 20 destinations during the holy month, the study said.
“The trend for Muslims to travel to the GCC during the fasting period has been growing over the last few years – these countries offer them Muslim-friendly services and facilities such as Halal food, prayer rooms and post-iftar activities,” said Salih Ozer, Attaché of Culture and Information from Turkey to the UAE.”
“Turkey not only offers all of these, but serves up a world-class tourist destination, with popular sights to visit and activities to be a part of.”
Ozer said the Muslim travel sector presented “incredible opportunities” for Turkey, “especially since it represents one of the fastest growing tourism sectors in the world”.
“We are boosting their efforts to attract and cater to the increasing number of Muslim visitors during Ramadan,” he said. “We understand the unique needs and preferences of Muslim travellers, and are tailor our products and services to their visit during the fasting period.”
Turkey is also one of the most popular destinations for Muslim travellers all year round with the Global Muslim Travel Index 2016 by MasterCard and CrescentRating revealing the country ranked third worldwide in 2015.
GCC countries are also rising through the rankings and The Ramadan Travel Report 2016 reveals that by 2023 when Ramadan will fall during the cooler winter months, Muslim travellers will flock to destinations like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Oman.
