Cathay Pacific and Dragonair have revealed details of their new baggage policy, which will increase weight allowances and reduce excess baggage charges.
Under the revised policy, all passengers, regardless of their travel class, will be offered an additional 10kg of checked-in baggage. This raises the allowance for economy class passengers to 30kg, premium economy to 35kg, business class to 40kg and first class to 50kg.
Marco Polo Club Silver, Gold and Diamond members will receive an extra 10kg, 15kg and 20kg respectively.
Passengers travelling in economy, premium economy and business class will be entitled to check-in two bags free-of-charge, while first class passengers will be entitled to three bags. Marco Polo Club Gold and Diamond members will be entitled to check-in one additional item on top of their standard allowance.
Dragonair will also increase its carry-on baggage allowance, which currently stands at 5kg in all classes. Under the new rules, economy class passengers will be offered 7kg of hand luggage, rising to 10kg in business class and 15kg in first class.
Excess baggage charges will also be adjusted, with new “zoning” combinations seeing charges reduced by up to 40%. Of the 24 zoning options, excess baggage charges are reduced in 18, remain the same in five, and increase in just one.
The new baggage policies will come into force on 15 September 2016.
