Starwood has completed an extensive AU$43 million (US$32.6m) renovation of the Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas in northern Queensland.

The upgrade has comprised all 294 rooms and suites as well as the resort’s public areas, and has led to the creation of 41 new Lagoon Edge Rooms and 12 Lagoon Edge Studio Suites on the ground floor, which offer direct access to the resort’s saltwater swimming pools.

The resort has also now adopted the SPG Keyless system, which allows guests to use their smartphone as their room key.

“The Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas Resort renovation truly underscores the Sheraton brand’s new elevated and customised approach to design as part of Sheraton 2020, a 10-point plan designed to put Sheraton back in the global spotlight,” said Vincent Ong, Starwood’s senior director of brand management for Asia Pacific.

“From the tropical north Queensland-inspired colour palette to the local-inspired dining choices, Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas allows guests to fully immerse themselves in the destination from the second they step foot on property.”

The rooms and suites have all now been redecorated, with indoor-outdoor balconies now featuring new daybeds, while the lobby area now features a new express check-in and check-out hub. In terms of F&B, the resort now features Sheraton’s signature restaurant concept, Feast, while the Daintree Bar & Lounge has been revamped. And finally, 26 cabanas have now been installed in the poolside areas.
