Peach, the Japanese low-cost carrier, has announced plans to launch its first ever flights to mainland China.
From November 2016, the airline will commence two new routes to Shanghai, from Osaka and Tokyo. This will make ANA-backed Peach the first Japanese LCC to serve Shanghai.
“The opening of a route that linked Japan with Shanghai has been an ardent desire that we have had since we first established Peach to become a “Bridge for Asia”,” said Peach’s CEO, Shinichi Inoue.
“I have every confidence that the opening of our Shanghai route will further invigorate exchange between people, and that deeper mutual understanding will help build lasting friendships, not only between Japan and China but with the rest of Asia as well.”
The first route, scheduled to launch on 1 November, will be Osaka Kansai-Shanghai Pudong. Flights will run five times a week, departing the Japanese city every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and returning the following day.
Then a day later on 2 November, Peach will start operating five weekly flights from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Shanghai Pudong, with outbound and return services every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Both routes will be operated by a 180-seat, all-economy class Airbus A320 aircraft.
Shanghai becomes Peach’s sixth international destination, following Seoul and Busan in South Korea, Taipei and Kaohsiung in Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
