Thai Vietjet, the new domestic low-cost carrier, has continued its rapid recent expansion with the launch of its first flights to the northern city of Chiang Mai.

The new Bangkok-Chiang Mai route took off for the first time on 26 September, marking the airline’s third new domestic route this month, following the earlier launches of flights connecting Bangkok and Chiang Rai with Phuket.

The Bangkok-Chiang Mai route will now operate twice a day using a 180-seat Airbus A320 aircraft. Flights depart from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport at 0610 and 1910 and arrive in Chiang Mai at 0730 and 2030 respectively. The return flights take off the northern Thai city at 0800 and 2120 and arrive back in Bangkok at 0920 and 2240.

“We are very grateful to all passengers for their valued support, especially in the beginning of the carrier’s domestic operations,” said Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh, Vietjet’s vice president. “With the new service of Bangkok – Chiang Mai today, we are proud to offer more choices in the market, delivering the new-age carrier’s commitment to growing with Thai tourism.”

Thai Vietjet’s expansion will continue in November with the launch of a new international service between Bangkok and Haiphong, the Vietnamese port city.
