China has seen a significant increase in domestic tourism and spending during this week’s Golden Week, or National Day holidays.
Xinhua reported data from the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) as showing that 415 million people visited tourist attractions across the country in first four days of the week-long holiday, up 13.8% compared to the corresponding period last year.
Domestic tourist spending rose 15.1% to CNY340 billion (US$51bn) during the same period.
Tourist visits and spending both reached their peaks on Monday 3 October, with about 108m travellers making domestic trips and spending reaching CNY88bn.
From 1-4 October, China’s railways carried 47.7m passengers, up 10.5% year-on-year.
