EVA Air has expanded its partnership with Sanrio, the Japanese cartoon creator, with the launch of a new Gudetama-themed aircraft.

The colourful aircraft features both an exterior livery and interior design based on Gudetama, a depressive cartoon egg. This includes Gudetama-themed headrest covers, pillows, in-flight meals, slippers and playing cards. Flight attendants will also wear Gudetama outfits.

The special jet, a 184-seat Airbus A321, has been deployed on one of the airline’s daily Taipei-Tokyo Narita flights.

“Since EVA and Sanrio launched our first generation of Hello Kitty Jets in 2005, our specially painted aircrafts have been popular among our passengers all over the world,” said EVA’s president, Derek Chen.

“Different from the sweet image of Hello Kitty, Gudetama symbolises a laidback, relaxed style of travel. Our new Gudetama plane also equips us to offer more variety and attract more passengers.”

EVA’s Gudetama jet joins four Hello Kitty-themed planes on flights from Taiwan to Japan, Korea and mainland China, and two Sanrio-themed Boeing 777s on long-haul routes.
