New Caledonia’s national carrier starts complete fleet overhaul

Air Calédonie, the domestic national carrier of New Caledonia, has started the process of replacing its entire fleet with new aircraft.
The airline recently took delivery of its first ATR 72-600 aircraft at a ceremony in France. The South Pacific airline will eventually receive four of these 68-seat aircraft. And by next year, all four of Air Calédonie’s existing aircraft – one ATR42-500 and three ATR72-500s – will be replaced with the new models.
“We are proud to support Air Calédonie in its period of growth,” said Christian Scherer, CEO of ATR. “Air Calédonie is undertaking a major change and we are pleased to watch the ATR 72-600 becoming an integral part of the airline’s success.”
Air Calédonie’s ATR 72-600 will seat 68 passengers in all-economy configuration and will be used on domestic services around the archipelago. Its first commercial service will be on 7 December 2016, when the turboprop aircraft flies from Noumea’s Magenta Airport to Koné Airport.
