Cracking effort: AccorHotels commits to 100% free-range eggs

AccorHotels has announced a commitment to source its entire global supply of eggs from free-range sources.
The hotel group already uses free-range eggs where they are available, and it has now formed a partnership with Humane Society International to identify free-range supply chains in markets where they are currently unavailable or difficult to locate.
As a result, AccorHotels has stated that it will completely eliminate caged eggs from its supply chain within eight years.
“We are focusing on guests’ health as much as on giving farmers fair deals, protecting the environment and protecting animal welfare. We are teaming up with Humane Society International for all these reasons,” said Amir Nahai, AccorHotels’ CEO for group food & beverage.
At present, all the eggs in AccorHotels’ properties in Austria and Switzerland come from free-range farms, as do more than 60% of the eggs at its hotels in Germany and France. The main focus of the new partnership is to identify free-range supply chains in regions such as Asia and South America.
Humane Society International said it will support the initiative by conducting “technical workshops” on cage-free egg production for suppliers, as well as developing new connections to cage-free egg producers and animal welfare experts in these regions.
