The Lunar New Year holiday is one of the busiest and most lucrative times of the year for many Asian airlines.
But one regional carrier is actively encouraging passengers to stay at home, rather than travel overseas.
Singapore-based Jetstar Asia has taken the unusual stance by allowing all passengers to change their flight dates free of charge for departures on 27 and 28 January 2017 – Lunar New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
“Family comes first,” said Chantal van Wijnbergen, Jetstar’s regional marketing manager for Southeast Asia. “We hope our customers will treasure their reunion at home with their loved ones this coming Lunar New Year, because you can always travel after that.”
As part of the campaign, Jetstar also conducted a “social experiment” to find out if younger travellers would give up free flight tickets to spend Lunar New Year at home with their family. CLICK HERE to watch the responses.
Jetstar Asia has already announced plans to operate 23 additional flights over the Lunar New Year holiday period, including services from Singapore Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Shantou and Haikou.
