Marriott International has unveiled plans to develop its new corporate headquarters and a hotel project in the US state of Maryland.
The US$600 million development in downtown Bethesda will include a 22-storey office building and a 230+ room Marriott hotel, both of which are expected to open in 2022.
The office building will include a childcare centre, a fitness centre and a cafeteria for staff, while the hotel will contain a restaurant, coffee shop, rooftop terrace and meeting space, including a ballroom. The two buildings will be linked “landscaped public plaza”, and there will also be an underground parking area with 800 spaces.
“Montgomery County has been Marriott International’s home for more than 60 years, and we take great pride in the strong relationships we’ve developed and the contributions we have made as a committed community partner,” said Carolyn Handlon, executive vice president of finance & global treasurer for Marriott International.
“That’s a tradition – and promise to the community – that started with Marriott’s founders 90 years ago. We look forward to continuing that legacy as we create our new, 21st Century home in downtown Bethesda and continue our work as the world’s largest hotel company.”
The development follows the signing of a letter of intent with a joint venture of The Bernstein Companies and Boston Properties.
