A new agreement will come into force this week that will enhance connectivity between India and the US.

On Wednesday 19 April 2017, Jet Airways will start partnering with UK-based Virgin Atlantic to provide more transfer options for passengers travelling between India and the US, via London Heathrow Airport.

Passengers of both airlines will be able to book single-ticket travel from Mumbai or Delhi to Heathrow and onwards to nine US destinations served by Virgin Atlantic: Atlanta, Boston, Newark, Washington, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco and Seattle.

Baggage will be checked through to the final destination, and passengers of both airlines will be able to earn frequent flyer points on all sectors.

This codeshare builds on the existing agreement between Jet and Virgin Atlantic, which has been in place since 2009. This enables the UK carrier’s passengers to travel on Jet’s flights between Mumbai and Delhi and Heathrow, and onwards to five other Indian destinations. Delta Air Lines also forms part of the three-way partnership.

“Offering greater choice and connectivity to our guests has always been a hallmark of our network strategy. The new codeshares build on the success of our ongoing cooperation with Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic over London Heathrow and will provide our guests with more connectivity to and within the United States,” said Gaurang Shetty, Jet’s whole-time director.

In October last year, Delta and Jet started codesharing between India and the US, via Heathrow, with the Atlanta-based airline’s passengers offered connections to 20 destinations within India and Jet’s customers offered connections to 18 US cities.

Tickets under the new codeshare are now available for sale for travel effective 19 April 2017.
