Singapore Airlines (SIA) has signed an agreement that will enable Singaporeans to travel to Colombia more easily.
From next month onwards, a new codeshare deal with Avianca will allow passengers to fly between Singapore and the Colombian capital Bogota, via Barcelona or London.
Avianca will place its “AV” code on SIA’s flights between these two European cities and Singapore, while SIA will add its “SQ” code to Avianca’s services from Barcelona and London to Bogota. This will allow passengers to book single-ticket travel on the two airlines, with baggage checked through all the way between Singapore and Bogota.
SIA and Avianca are both members of the Star Alliance.
“This new codeshare agreement with Star Alliance partner Avianca provides our customers with seamless connections to Bogota, the financial and commercial centre of Colombia. It is another example of our commitment to continuously expand our network to offer customers greater accessibility and travel options,” said SIA’s senior vice president of marketing planning, Tan Kai Ping.
SIA does not currently operate flights to Latin America, having suspended its services to Sao Paulo last year.
