Joining the portfolio of Autograph Collection Hotels, The Pantheon Iconic Rome Hotel opened in the heart of the Eternal City, a few steps from one of Rome’s top tourist attractions.
Marriott International’s Autograph Collection Hotels is a distinctive collection of 135 independent hotels which strives for an image of passion, diversity and dynamic design. On 4 May, the brand officially opened its latest 5-star addition, The Pantheon Iconic Rome Hotel, and it takes pride in its close proximity to The Pantheon. It’s a landmark building in Rome which was built around 2,000 years ago, representing the complex architecture of the great Roman Empire.
“This sophisticated sanctuary in the heart of ancient Rome will exceed our promise to deliver exactly like nothing else”
“With its enviable location, individually-designed guestrooms, and imaginative dining experiences, The Pantheon Iconic Rome Hotel is a stunning addition to Autograph Collection Hotels,” said John Licence, VP premium & select brands Europe at Marriott International. “We know that this sophisticated sanctuary in the heart of ancient Rome will exceed our promise to deliver exactly like nothing else guests experience.”
Marco Piva, a celebrated Italian architect, interior designer and product designer, was tapped to execute the hotel’s vision. And when in Rome, it’s only natural to draw inspiration from the heritage of the city, following the Pantheon’s geometry and circular motifs with the use of marble and brass throughout the hotel.
In addition, the use of light was studied carefully, creating the effect of scenography. As an example, the original arches in the gallery leading off the lobby are covered in metal and embedded with lights to create the appearance of architectural illumination.
Rooms and views
The Pantheon Iconic Rome Hotel features 79 individually designed guest rooms and 20 of them are suites featuring custom designed furniture, furnishings, and original works of art. The rooms are abundant in luxury upholstery, bathrooms are in marble and glass, and colour schemes gradually brighten on each ascending floor. All rooms in the hotel feature a rotating selection of items inspired by local Rome events and happenings. Plus, there’s a minibar in each room and a second mini wine cellar that’s equipped with three full-sized bottles of champagne and wine options.
And for guests wanting those extraordinary views, just outside its windows are cultural icons such as The Pantheon, Piazza Sant’Eustachio and Via di Santa Chiara.
Gastronomy
Led by chef Pasquale Palamaro, a Michelin star awardee in 2013, the hotel showcases signature gourmet dining experience at Dionysus Restaurant. It serves only the freshest local ingredients fashioned into seasonal offerings with flavours of the Mediterranean. The meals are complemented with an extensive international wine list with more than 400 labels.
The main entrance to Dionysus is designed with original bronze artwork handcrafted by local artisans and an LED glass window into the kitchen allows diners to watch as their dishes are being prepared. Nearby, the dedicated Breakfast Area features indoor and outdoor seating for about 90 and features oversized windows that frame The Pantheon.
The terrace
To maximise the iconic views, the Divinity Terrace Lounge Bar invites guests six storeys above ground. It offers 360-degree views of surrounding rooftops, seven domes including the Pantheon’s, and the city beyond. In recognition of the city’s history, the rooftop lounge bar celebrates the seven planetary divinities to which The Pantheon is dedicated. A different divinity is celebrated each day of the week, reflected in the lounge bar’s cocktail menu.
Additional public areas within the hotel include a gallery restored from the original building, and a boutique featuring luxury items from top-quality Italian designers.
