Cathay Pacific has announced a new non-stop service to Seattle – its eighth direct link to the US – beginning on 31 March 2019.
Connecting new destinations not otherwise served from Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific looks to further link the world to its home. After launching new Euro routes back in May, the airline announced a new non-stop service to Seattle, one of the fastest-growing cities on the West Coast of the United States.
Seattle is the fourth largest export market in the United States and a thriving tech hub. Megabrands such as Amazon, Microsoft and Starbucks are all headquartered in the city, while Boeing, one of the world’s largest aerospace companies, has its commercial aircraft manufacturing base in nearby Everett.
“There are strong business, trade and cultural ties”
Cathay Pacific’s CEO, Rupert Hogg, commented: “We are very pleased to be introducing Seattle and to provide more convenience and choice to our customers. There are strong business, trade and cultural ties between Hong Kong and the city and we believe there will be considerable demand for both business and leisure travel on this new route.”
The A350-900 is a quiet and more environmentally-friendly aircraft, equipped with an enhanced in-flight entertainment system and Wi-Fi connectivity across business, premium economy and economy classes. Its new route is part of the airline’s expansion strategy – with nine new destinations having already been announced for launch this year.
Hogg added: “We have developed a significant presence in the United States and the launch of Seattle not only reaffirms our commitment to the important North American market but also to strengthening Hong Kong’s status as Asia’s largest international aviation hub.”
Cathay Pacific currently serves Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York (JFK), New York (Newark), San Francisco, Toronto and Vancouver. The four-times-weekly service will see Seattle become the airline’s eighth passenger gateway in the United States and its 10th in North America.
