Qatar has introduced strict new rules that will force the citizens of 33 countries - including the UK and the US - to apply for a visa before visiting the country.Exact details of the regulations, which are due to come in force on 1 May and also apply to GCC-based expatriates of those nationalities, are yet unclear.TDME contacted the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) and Qatar Airways for a comment regarding the impact of the new rules on business and leisure tourism to Qatar, but had received no feedback at time of press.Details of visa costs have not been released, but what is known is that visas will take two to three days to process and those travelling on business must have theirs arranged by a local sponsor, via Qatar’s Ministry of Interior. In addition, all applicants will need to provide bank statements for the last three months showing the name and address of the applicant and proving they have at least $1,300 in the account.
