The Sharjah International Travel and Tourism Forum (SITTF), the leading event for the tourism industry, which will be held on 24 November, 2021 at Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre and virtually too, is gearing up to offer a platform for the sharing of important information and inspiring insights pertaining to the future of the sector in Sharjah and the region.

Organised by the Sharjah Commerce & Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), the theme for this year’s event is ‘SMART Tourism and Global Challenges’. The legacy behind SITTF

Organised by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), the much esteemed Sharjah Hospitality Forum (SHF) has proven to be a key pillar of the successful expansion of the travel and tourism industry in the emirate of Sharjah.

Aimed at strengthening the hospitality and tourism sector which is so important for economic growth, and showing future trends in specialisation, technology and sustainability, the SHF has been facilitating the exchange of expertise and knowledge to gain insights that will benefit the future of tourism in the region. The last seven editions have focused on various aspects of tourism and brought together leading experts and tourism industry professionals for discussions on tourism and how to create and manage successful business opportunities.

Last year, SHF 2020, the seventh edition of SHF, was held virtually for the first time due to Covid-19. It highlighted the emerging tourism, hospitality and travel challenges and opportunities in a post-pandemic era and discussed the best and fastest recovery path for the emirate’s tourism sector. The event also showcased the most successful tourism projects and the latest innovations that are driving tourism recovery.

2021 will see the SHF open this year with a new name reflective of the evolution and advancement of the sector in the emirate with SITTF 2021.

Stellar list of keynote speakers

Looking forward to the event and focusing on specialisation, business and professionalisation, SITTF 2021 has come up with a stellar list of keynote speakers and content for the upcoming edition, including an agenda of expert panel discussions and meetings to bring together supply and demand specialised in this segment so vital for relaunching the tourism industry in Sharjah and the region.

The event will bring together high-profile speakers from the government and private sectors, experts, decision-makers, tourism and economic stakeholders, and representatives of local authorities and international organisations.

Learn, share and collaborate

It includes an opening speech by the Chairman of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, HE. Khalid Jasim Al Midfa who brings over 20 years of dynamic professional experience in various commercial, tourism and economic fields in Sharjah. Under his leadership, the SCTDA has achieved many successes at both international and local levels, becoming a major cornerstone of the emirate’s tourism development efforts. Al Midfa has taken the emirate’s events and forums to even higher standards, further cementing his commitment to taking Sharjah’s tourism success to new heights.

This will be followed by the guest of honour speech by Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium Enterprises, HE. Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi. Under this role, H.E. Dr. Al Falasi is at the fore of designing national initiatives to strengthen the UAE’s small and medium enterprise (SME) sector, one of the engines of the national economy, and promote entrepreneurship in various industries. H.E. is also tasked to set a strategic direction and develop a general national policy for the country’s tourism sector.

Next in line is the keynote presentation by UNWTO Regional Director for the Middle East, Basmah Al Mayman. As one of the founders of tourism in Saudi Arabia, Al-Mayman has focused on developing and strengthening Saudi Relations with International organisations such as United Nations (UN) agencies and World Bank, UNESCO, UNDP, as well as other international organizations and stakeholders in the fields of tourism, heritage, museums, antiquities, and built heritage.

The forum, under the theme ‘Smart Tourism and Global Challenges’, will include 4 valuable sessions on subjects ranging from Entrepreneurship opportunities and challenges in smart destinations to Tourism Leadership Change & Innovation.
