We are delighted to introduce you to Marisa Sukosol Nunbhakdi – President Thai Hotel Association & Executive Vice President Sukosol Hotels in our newest interview in the series from TDs Inspiring Women in Travel Asia (IWTA).
Marisa leads the organisational development, operational and marketing strategies for Sukosol Hotels, a family owned and operated hotel group.
Life Vision
Marisa studied art history, and originally dreamt of being a singer. She is indeed a singer, and has recorded a hit song in Thailand, often performing alongside her mother, Kamala Sukosol, on stage and in charity concerts, but raised within a hospitality family with a strong work ethic, Marisa entered the family business at an early age and has successfully spearheaded the development of the Sukosol family’s award-winning collection of unique and bespoke hotels in Thailand.
Greatest Achievements
In addition to successfully leading operations for Sukosol Hotels, Marisa was appointed by the Thai Hotel Association as Chairperson of the Committee for Environment, and six years later elected President of the Thai Hotel Association. This was not something she imagined becoming, but her passion for promoting tourism and her leadership in driving the work towards sustainable and responsible tourism in the country is evident.
More recently, Marisa has been part of a working group consulting on sustainable and community tourism for the National Economic & Social Development Council, drafting 5-year plans for the development of community tourism in the country, as well as an EU Switch Asia Programme to promote sustainability in the wider travel industry.
Greatest Inspiration
Her mother, Kamala Sukosol – for her unceasing energy and drive both in business and charity work. Marisa talks of a trip to Australia with her mother and her siblings, during which they entertained members of the travel industry with a concert during a tourism promotion roadshow, as just one of the ways her mother is so inspirational, and memorable!
Advice to the Young Generation
Have faith in the tourism industry in Thailand. It is the country’s greatest asset, along with its people and there are exciting years of growth and opportunity ahead.
