Indonesia makes airlines pay passenger compensation

The Indonesian government has approved a ruling that will require airlines to compensate passengers whose flights are delayed. The Transportation Ministry signed Ministerial Decree No 77/2011, which requires carriers to pay out IDR300,000 (US$35) per passenger who is delayed by four hours or more.
According to the Jakarta Globe, the new law also covers insurance for lost or damaged baggage and insurance for passengers injured or killed in a crash. For lost baggage, airlines are required to pay IDR200,000 in compensation for every kilogramme, up to a maximum amount of IDR4 million. Finally, families of passengers killed in a plane crash will be entitle to an IDR1.25 billion minimum payout.
