Paris Air Show will take place from 17-23 June

The Paris Air Show opened this week, and all eyes are on the battle of the new wide-body aircraft – the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A350.

As Airbus’ home show, the Franco-German planemaker has traditionally performed well in Paris. And with the first flight of its new A350 XWB (extra wide-body) having taken place on Friday, there is likely to be considerable interest in the new twin-aisle jet.

Boeing meanwhile, is using the show to showcase its B787 Dreamliner, which is now being produced at record levels following its four-month grounding. Along with a static display, Qatar Airways will conduct flying displays in Paris using one of its Dreamliners, and Boeing’s vice president and general manager of airplane development, Scott Fancher, will provide an overview of the US planemaker’s new twin-aisle models, including the new B787-9 and B787-10X Dreamliners, plus the new B777X.

Airbus will not be displaying its actual A350, but has installed a life-size model of the aircraft’s cockpit and cabin sections, which will be open for walk-through tours. It also plans to showcase the double-decker A380, with British Airways’ first superjumbo taking centre stage in the first few days of the show, followed by Airbus’ flight test aircraft later in the week. Airbus’ new A380 advertising campaign, ‘Own the Sky’, will also be unveiled during the week.

The 50th Paris Air Show will take place at Le Bourget exhibition centre from 17-23 June 2013, and is expected to be attended by 2,113 exhibitors from 45 countries, 151,000 trade visitors and 204,000 members of the public.

Travel Daily will be reporting on all the deals from the event, so stay tuned this week to see who triumphs in the battle between Airbus and Boeing.
