Chinese low-cost carrier Spring Airlines has signed a new distribution agreement with Abacus International.
The three-year deal means that Shanghai-based Spring will be able to sell its fares to international travel agents via the Abacus GDS. The carrier currently operates international services to Hong Kong and Macau, Taiwan, South Korea and Thailand.
“Spring Airlines has been successful in creating opportunities for travellers to explore China and we are now responding to demand for more options overseas,” said Spring’s chairman, Wang Zhenghua. “We started the airline with business from sister Spring Travel, so appreciate how important the trade channel is in building the brand. We look forward to working with Abacus agents and to offering them the best of our fares.”
Robert Bailey, president & CEO of Abacus called the Spring deal a “landmark partnership”.
“We are delighted to be working with China’s most successful private budget carrier to give Abacus agents exclusive access to their exceptional fares. We will expand segments that already run into the millions each year,” Bailey added.
For Abacus, the agreement broadens access to the mainland Chinese aviation market at a time when the country’s aviation authorities are gradually removing barriers to international GDS companies operating in China.
