Abu Dhabi taps into Ukraine’s tourism market

For the first five months of the year, some 2,556 Ukrainians stayed in Abu Dhabi’s hotels and hotel apartments – a 32% rise on the same period last year. With TCA Abu Dhabi eager to increase average length of stay, Ukrainian guest nights during the same five-month period totaled 12,581 – a 42% jump on last year – which equates to 4.9 nights per Ukrainian guest.
Riding on this growth, a Ukrainian delegation of six high-end tour operators and representatives from Ukrainian International Airways (UIA) visited Abu Dhabi leisure proposition in a joint Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) and Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) promotional initiative.
The familiarisation programme saw showcased the newly-opened hotels and resorts, such as The Park Hyatt Hotel & Villas, Saadiyat Island, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and other leading culture and heritage sites.
With Ukraine returning strong numbers as one of Abu Dhabi’s emerging international source markets, TCA Abu Dhabi officials outlined how the emirate’s current hotel room projections – inventory is expected to exceed 25,000 rooms by the end of this year – are in tow with the luxury-seeking Ukrainian outbound market.
TCA Abu Dhabi, which is planning a CIS road show with key stakeholders this October, operates a fully-fledged promotional office in Moscow which looks after Ukrainian and Russian-speaking tour operators in Ukraine and other Eastern European countries.
