Aparthotel brand Adagio has signed a new property in Edinburgh due to open in three years.

The 146-apartment property is scheduled to open in early 2017 as part of the New Waverly development in the city’s Old Town.

The GBP150 million development will have frontages on the Royal Mile and Canongate with a new public square and walkway inspired by the Wynds.

The square will also feature restaurants, shops and cafes to the cost of GBP6.5m, retaining the area’s historic character including the Canongate Venture building and the façade of the Old Sailor’s Ark, which helped feed homeless people before and after the Second World War.

“Aparthotels Adagio represent a travel concept for city breakers that is smart, economical and immersed in the heart of the city. We are working hard with Artisan to ensure our new aparthotel is itself immersed in the history and culture of the city and gives our guests a base from which to enjoy this fantastic city and surrounding area,” said Vangelis Porikis, Aparthotels Adagio director, Central & Northern Europe.
