Aeromexico is expanding its operations in Asia, with the launch of extra flights to Tokyo and Shanghai.

Starting in April 2014, the Mexican carrier will add its fourth weekly flight to Tokyo’s Narita International Airport, and then in July it will launch a third weekly flight to Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport.

The Tokyo service will depart Mexico City every Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday at 1110, making a short stop in Tijuana on the Mexico-US border, before arriving in the Japanese capital at 0645 two days later.

The return flight leaves Tokyo every Monday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 1525, getting back into the Mexican capital at 1410 the same day. Aeromexico will serve the route using its brand new 243-seat, two-class Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

On the Shanghai route, Aeromexico’s three weekly flights will leave Mexico City International Airport every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday at 0945, arriving at Pudong International Airport at 0645, two days after departure.

The return leg leaves Shanghai at 1045 every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, arriving back in Mexico City at 1400. Flights will be operated using a 277-seat, two-class Boeing 777-200ER aircraft.

“For more than seven years, Aeromexico has been the only Latin American airline to fly to Asia. The increase in these new schedules will make it possible to meet the travel demand of the Asian market, and provide some 3,500 seats on a weekly basis for the benefit of all its customers,” the airline said in a statement.

Tokyo and Shanghai are the only two Asian cities in Aeromexico’s international network of 80 destinations.
