Air Astana has boosted its presence in the Middle East with launch of direct daily flights to Dubai.

The airline has added three more weekly flights to its existing four-times-a-week Almaty-Dubai service, taking the total frequency to daily. The route is served using a two-class Airbus A320 aircraft offering 16 seats in business class and 132 in economy.

The expansion of services follows the Kazakhstan government’s decision to offer visa-free travel to UAE nationals.

“This is the right time to recommence our services to Almaty,” said Peter Foster, president & CEO of Air Astana. “The Middle East economy is much stronger…, there is a strong appetite for travel to new destinations, and the positivity around the UAE for the city that will host Expo 2020 is clear to see.

“Importantly, with our new visa waiver programme in place now for UAE travellers, we anticipate that Almaty will become an increasingly popular destination,” Foster added.

Under Kazakhstan’s visa waiver scheme, visitors from 10 countries can now enter Kazakhstan without needing to apply for a visa in advance.

Air Astana now operates scheduled international services to more than 40 cities in 18 countries. From 15 December it will also add a new service connecting Kazakhstan’s capital Astana with Bangkok.
